After an unplanned trip back to Toronto I was back on the Arch late afternoon Friday.

I dropped my daughter off in Kingston where she would join friends on Sand Lake which was accessible from the southern end of Davis Lock. I arrived at the lock after 6pm and raced to set up camp on the west side. I dropped the Kayak in the water a little after 7pm and paddled off to enjoy dinner at our friends cottage. When I paddled back to the lock around 10 it was dark but for a blood red moon hovering above the trees. Sand Lake is home to me and I know the coast very well but it was great to see the lights of the Lockmaster house as I rounded the channel north towards the lock. In the dark I nearly stumbled over a porcupine lumbering in front of my tent.

I the morning I drop a few kilometers south to enjoy the Crosby Flea Market. When I returned, goodies and treats in hand I kayaked back to our friends cottage and a bit of windsurfing and water skiing. I stayed for a barbeque and got back to the lock before dark around 9pm.

On Sunday morning I slept in a bit and then packed up and returned to Kingston to pick up my daughter and then continue on to Toronto. It would be several weeks before I could get away again.

These images were shot with an iPhone and dressed up with PhotoShop Mobile Express. I also like to use SnapSeed to tidy up mobile snaps.

Things learned!

  • Don’t paddle at night.
  • Porcupines and Racoons! Critters want your food!
  • Don’t keep your food in your tent. Suspend it in a tree instead.
