Leaving Jones Falls in the morning I arrived at highway 15. I still had not decided which direction I’d head.
South towards Kingston would take me to the Brewers Lockstations with beautiful Canadian Shield landscape. North towards Smiths Falls were a number of small towns I could explore. I’d researched and had plans for most of the locks and the day was so spectacular they would all be great destinations. Poonamalie is beautiful while Upper Brewers has some really big lakes I’ve never explored.
The signs didn’t help much. A hawk flew overhead in a circle and then headed north. So I headed north still with no destination in mind. While driving the picturesque highway I decided to scout Poonamalie and then continue on through Smiths Falls to Merrickville with the notion I could paddle to Kilmarnock day and up towards Ottawa the next nite if that felt right.
