Poonamalie Lock is just south of Smith Falls. I stopped for a few supplies and arrived at the lock mid afternoon. The sky was gray as I set up camp along the north east side of the lock expecting to sit out a day or two of thunderstorms.
I sat with the lockmaster for a while chatting about paddling opportunities, Smiths Falls and Perth. It was an uneventful evening and I read in the tent as the rain started to drizzle in the early evening.
The next morning the rain let up enough for me to make some breakfast and kayak north into Smiths Falls.
Return trip to Smiths Falls Detached Lock is about 10 km with a few detours.
